We are excited to share our Quick Start Local’s Guide Course intended to be self-paced, but we understand that some of you prefer to have a guide to work from. The following course syllabus will provide you with an overview of the 4 modules, consisting of 9 assignments.

A little about us.

Hi there, we are Holly and Madi! It wasn’t all that long ago, I (Holly) wanted to make a difference in my community, stay up to date with what was happening and figure out a way to make some money while doing so. So I created Lake Oconee Life.

I tried a number of ways to monetize my site. I sold ads on our website, I considered affiliate income but that didn’t make sense for a hyper-local community and then I stumbled across the perfect combination: Print + SEO + Social Media.

But wait, I am getting ahead of myself. Madi and I manage two local online businesses that highlight two communities in central Georgia, Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair.

Lake Oconee is a small lake and golf resort community, made up mainly of retirees. It also plays host to a variety of tourists.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Lake Sinclair predominantly consisted of second homes for people from Macon, Atlanta and Augusta. Since then and with more people working remotely than ever before, many of these homeowners have renovated and enlarged their home to become their full-time residences.

These two blogs keep us very busy and yes we do make a living managing them. We have three part-time employees we recruited from the local college.

Our success is due in part to the hybrid model we created, the one I mentioned above. We advertise local businesses on multiple mediums to keep their brand in front of the community whether they are on Google, scrolling through social media, or pick-up one of our popular 5”x5” books from a local business or hotel. We currently have over 80 businesses advertising with us and a waitlist for next year’s edition.

Our unique approach to marketing our local business' products or services is what sets us apart from the competition, whether it be the local newspaper, magazines, billboards, or SEO marketing firms and the locals love it. They come back for more...daily!
